How to use the countdown

Pick the occasion and leave the date empty to count from today, or enter any date to see how far away the next occasion was or will be. The full table below the result lists every upcoming occasion in date order.

How the dates are calculated (rules as of 2026)

Dates come from Saudi Arabia’s official Umm al-Qura calendar (King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology). Religious occasions are confirmed by moon sighting – by the Supreme Court in Saudi Arabia and the Moon Sighting Committee in the UAE – so the actual day can differ by one day.

From 11 October 2026 (30 Rabi al-Thani 1448) to 1 Ramadan 1448 on 8 February 2027: 20 days left in October + 30 (Nov) + 31 (Dec) + 31 (Jan) + 8 = 120 days, or 17 weeks and 1 day.

Public holidays in the GCC

  • UAE: Eid al-Fitr 1–3 Shawwal and Arafah + Eid al-Adha (9–12 Dhu al-Hijjah) for public and private sectors (Cabinet Resolution on official holidays).
  • Saudi Arabia: private-sector workers get 4 days for each Eid under the Labour Law Implementing Regulations.
  • Working hours are shortened by 2 hours a day during Ramadan in the UAE and Saudi private sectors.

Frequently asked questions

When does Ramadan 2027 start?

According to the Umm al-Qura calendar, 1 Ramadan 1448 falls on Monday, 8 February 2027, so the first taraweeh prayer is on the evening of Sunday, 7 February. The final date is announced after the moon sighting on 29 Shaban.

When is Eid al-Fitr 2027?

Eid al-Fitr (1 Shawwal 1448) is expected on Tuesday, 9 March 2027 – if Ramadan has 29 days. If the crescent is not sighted, Ramadan completes 30 days and Eid moves to the next day.

When is Eid al-Adha 2027?

Eid al-Adha (10 Dhu al-Hijjah 1448) is expected on Sunday, 16 May 2027, with the Day of Arafah on Saturday, 15 May 2027.

Why do Ramadan dates change every year?

The Islamic calendar is lunar, with 354 or 355 days a year, so Ramadan arrives about 11 days earlier each Gregorian year and cycles through all seasons in about 33 years.

Are the dates the same in every Gulf country?

Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait and Bahrain usually announce the same dates; Oman often follows its own moon sighting and can be a day later.
