Nationals and social insurance
Qatari, Kuwaiti, Bahraini and Omani nationals are covered by state pension and social-insurance funds, which generally replace the end-of-service gratuity. This calculator is for expatriate employees in the private sector.
Estimates for educational purposes. Contracts can give more than the legal minimum, and amounts you owe the employer may be deducted. Check with the Ministry of Labour (Qatar, Oman), PAM (Kuwait) or LMRA/SIO (Bahrain).
Frequently asked questions
How is gratuity calculated in Qatar?
Article 54 of Labour Law No. 14 of 2004 gives at least three weeks’ basic wage (21 days, i.e. 21/30 of the monthly basic) for each year of service once you complete one year, with part-years paid pro rata. Resigning does not reduce it; it is lost only on dismissal for gross misconduct under Article 61.
How is end-of-service indemnity calculated in Kuwait?
Under Law 6/2010 Article 51, monthly-paid workers get 15 days’ pay (monthly salary ÷ 26 × 15) for each of the first five years and one month’s pay for each later year, capped at 18 months’ pay. If you resign (Article 53), you receive nothing under 3 years, half for 3–5 years, two-thirds for 5–10 years and the full amount after 10 years.
What changed for expat gratuity in Bahrain in 2024?
From 1 March 2024 the employer no longer pays a lump sum for new service: it pays monthly contributions of 4.2% (first 3 years) or 8.4% (after 3 years) to the Social Insurance Organization, which pays the benefit when you leave. The amount still mirrors Article 116 of Law 36/2012 – half a month per year for the first 3 years and a month per year after – and service before March 2024 is paid by the employer.
What is the gratuity in Oman under the new Labour Law?
Article 61 of Royal Decree 53/2023 gives non-Omani workers at least one month’s basic wage for each year of service from 31 July 2023. Service before that date is paid under the old law: 15 days per year for the first three years and a month per year after. A 9% employer-funded savings scheme run by the Social Protection Fund will replace gratuity for expatriates – its start was postponed to no later than 19 July 2027 (Royal Decree 60/2025).

They have their own rules – use our UAE Gratuity Calculator (21/30 days per year, Decree-Law 33/2021) and Saudi End of Service Calculator (half/one month per year, Articles 84–85).
