How Jordanian social security contributions work

Social Security Law No. 1 of 2014 funds four insurance branches for private-sector workers. Contributions are a percentage of the monthly wage, up to a ceiling that the Social Security Corporation (SSC) updates every year for inflation.

Wage used = min(wage, 3,733) · Employee = 7.5% · Employer = 14.25% · Total = 21.75%

Worked example

An employee earning JOD 800 a month:

  • Employee: 800 × 7.5% = JOD 60 (JOD 720 a year)
  • Employer: 800 × 14.25% = JOD 114
  • Total paid to the SSC: JOD 174 a month

On a JOD 5,000 salary, contributions stop at the JOD 3,733 ceiling: JOD 279.98 from the employee and JOD 531.96 from the employer.

What changes are coming

A draft amending Social Security Law for 2026 is before Parliament. Government statements focus on retirement ages and early retirement rather than contribution rates; we will update this page once a new law is published in the Official Gazette.

Frequently asked questions

How much social security is deducted from my salary in Jordan?

7.5% of the wage: 6.5% for old-age, disability and death insurance and 1% for unemployment insurance. The employer adds 14.25%: 11% old age, 2% work injury, 0.75% maternity and 0.5% unemployment.

What is the maximum wage for social security in Jordan in 2026?

JOD 3,733 a month, up from JOD 3,668 in 2025. The ceiling is raised each year in line with the previous year’s inflation (1.77% in 2025). No contributions are due on pay above it.

Do non-Jordanian workers pay social security?

Yes. Non-Jordanian employees working for a covered employer are insured on the same basis, including the 7.5% employee share. Some groups, such as certain flexible work permit holders, follow special arrangements.

Are the rates the same in the public sector?

No. Public-sector employees covered by the Social Security Law are not in the unemployment, maternity and work-injury branches in the same way, so their total is lower (19.5% according to the SSC). This calculator uses the private-sector rates.
