Which letter case should you use?

Letter case changes how formal, loud or readable text feels. Headlines and book titles use title case, body text uses sentence case, and ALL CAPS is best kept for short labels and acronyms because it is harder to read in long passages.

Title Case: capitalise every word except short articles, conjunctions and prepositions in the middle

Worked example

Starting from the quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog:

Programming case styles

Code identifiers cannot contain spaces, so developers join words with capital letters or separators. The converter splits your text on spaces, punctuation and existing camelCase boundaries, so userAccountID can become user_account_id or user-account-id in one step.

Tips

  • Fix text typed with Caps Lock on by converting to sentence case, then re-capitalising names.
  • Style guides differ on title case: AP capitalises words of four letters or more, while Chicago lower-cases all prepositions. Check your publication's rules for edge cases.
  • Use kebab-case for readable, SEO-friendly URL slugs.
  • Alternating case is for jokes and memes – avoid it anywhere accessibility matters, as screen readers may stumble.

Why consistent capitalisation matters

Readers notice inconsistent headings, and code with mixed naming styles is harder to search and maintain. Pick one case per purpose – for example title case for page headings and snake_case for database fields – and use the converter to bring pasted text into line quickly.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between title case and sentence case?

Title case capitalises the main words of a heading (short words like "the", "of" and "and" stay lower case unless they come first or last). Sentence case only capitalises the first word of each sentence, plus the pronoun "I".

When should I use camelCase, snake_case or kebab-case?

camelCase is common for JavaScript and Java variables, snake_case for Python and database columns, kebab-case for URLs and CSS class names, and CONSTANT_CASE for constants.

Will sentence case keep my proper nouns capitalised?

No – the text is lower-cased first, so names like "London" become "london" unless they start a sentence. Re-capitalise proper nouns after converting.

Is my text stored or sent anywhere?

No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser; the text never leaves your device.
